Career Description

Certified nurse assistants (CNAs) serve as a support structure for the rapidly growing nursing sector. They have been called the nurse’s “eyes and ears,” interacting directly with patients, residents, and clients, monitoring their vital signs, and assisting when necessary.

As the baby boomer generation ages, the United States needs more health care professionals than ever. In addition, many baby-boomer nurses are reaching retirement themselves, creating a vacuum of open positions for personnel who perform nursing duties.

Career Opportunities

Certified nursing assistant experience provides an essential foundation of patient care skills in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home health-care facilities. Overall employment of nursing assistants is projected to grow 5 percent from 2021 to 2031, about as fast as the average for all occupations.

About 220,200 openings for nursing assistants are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.

Course Description:

The CNA by examination route prepares CNA testing candidates to take and pass the
Florida Nurse Aide exam. Candidates that prepare at CNA Training & Testing Center are eligible for Prometric testing at CNA Training & Testing Center.

Successful testing candidates obtain State licensure by the Florida Department of Health/Board of Nursing and are placed on the State registry as Florida licensed Certified Nursing Assistants.

Course Topics:

Certified nursing assistants, also known as CNAs, are a source of great emotional and physical support and provide hands-on health care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

CNAs provide help and support with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding, taking vital signs, and reporting observations to the nurse. Not only do CNAs provide care to the geriatric population in a skilled nursing, home health, or assisted living setting, CNAs also provide direct care to individuals in hospice, government facilities such as the VA, and even in private practices and clinics.

Some CNAs also work with nurse registries as independent caregivers; as oncology technicians, providing support to cancer patients; as a patient care technician, also known as PCT, working in a hospital setting; or as dialysis technicians, providing support for live-saving kidney care.

Although every healthcare setting is different, there are fundamental nursing assistant concepts and skills that apply across every setting. Our CNA by examination route includes fundamental nursing assistant concepts and skills with a focus on preparing CNA candidates to take and pass the Florida Nurse Aide exam to become a Florida licensed CNA.
